What is telehealth and when is it used?
Telehealth is when a person receives health services remotely through videoconferencing.
Telehealth means that you and the provider are at different locations and communicating through video equipment. While meeting in person with your healthcare professional is ideal for a personal and fulfilling experience, telehealth can be a good alternative when physical problems, transportation challenges, or a busy schedule make in-person visits difficult. Research shows that telehealth is often as effective as in-person visits and can improve access and continuity of care. However, it is important to understand that telehealth isn’t suitable for all programs, conditions, or people. Some therapies are better delivered in person, and certain health interventions require face-to-face interaction. Additionally, the recipient must have the proper equipment and a stable internet connection to ensure a reliable video and audio connection.
