Pre-petition Screening and Civil Commitment
Pre-petition Screening Process
Sometimes, a person is not able or willing to participate in services voluntarily and potentially poses a danger to themselves or others. The civil commitment process is to protect a person with mental illness, substance use disorder, developmental disability, and others from harm due to the illness. Civil commitments involve the legal system and are pursued when other less restrictive alternatives have not worked. For more information about the pre-petition screening process, please call (952) 361-1600.
